CUCM 9.0 – Pause when dialing a number with the Speed Dials keys.

Good morning!
The festive New Year’s fireworks have died down, and working days are coming again. 🙂 I decided to start 2013 with a small article devoted to the problem of inserting a pause in extension dialing when calling from CUCM to, for example, your PSTN.
Quite often, on various forums, the question was discussed – how to implement automatic extension dialing on CUCM? Suppose a CUCM user calls a company where not all employees have direct incoming DID numbers. Instead, the call arrives at the company’s general number, and then the auto-attendant or DISA function is triggered and prompts you to dial the employee’s extension in DTMF mode. In manual dialing, this can be done without problems, but what about the speed dial buttons on Cisco IP phones? How to pause for them while playing the auto-attendant greeting or, in the simplest case, while establishing a connection with the called PBX?

Unfortunately, earlier releases of CUCM (before 9.0) didn’t allow to implement a pause for the Speed Dials keys. In release 9.0, such an opportunity finally appeared. A comma is used to insert a pause. It is treated by the CUCM as a separator and a pause. The duration of the pause introduced by one comma is 2 seconds. If a longer pause is needed, multiple commas are allowed.
An example of the configuration of a direct dialing key (dialing plan of Ukraine, exit code to the city network – 9):
90445551234,,,,,4567 – the number 90445551234 will be dialed, then there will be a pause of 10 seconds, and then additional dialing of the number 4567 in DTMF.
A comma can also be used for automatic FACs. Suppose that for international calls, the CUCM subscriber needs to use FAC 8899. Then, in this case, the following sequence is entered on the Speed Dial key:
9004219185554433#, 8899 – an international number is dialed and then the authorization code 8899 will be entered.
